Project Summary

I redesigned the sound and music for Nicolas Menard's animation, Wednesday with Goddard. The guidelines for the project were to recreate and redesign all the sound in an animation without using online sample libraries. That includes, voice overs, sound effects, atmospheres, and music.

My sound design for this project was inspired by the minimalist style of the animation. I wanted to create spaces where the sound felt like a character in the scene. For most of the sounds, I recorded various physical items in action. Eugene's footsteps is a brick hitting another brick, Evelyn's is a crystal hitting glass. I also wanted to imbue the sound design elements within the musical elements so they felt one in the same. Sleeping in a tent on a mountain is accompanied by a short synth tune and a piece of paper unfolding. Or finding God is emphasized by a foreboding piano progression and sliding a stick down a piano.
