Buck Logos - Commercial
My goal for this personal project was to redesign the sound and music for logo animations. I'm inspired by motion design and felt developing a practice around it would allow me to explore details in movement, sound and design.
I started each piece with a steady beat and then meticulously matched the shapes with melodies and percussive sounds. For example, I might use a chord to emphasize an exploding shape or a transition moment to begin a melody. These musical timbres and rhythms feel true to the animation and the evolution of BUCK's branding. The first video has a playful and upbeat feel, while the second has a funkier and smoother tone.
I created original sound designs for three animated shorts. Each animation did not have sound in their final delivery, so I took that as an opportunity to find inspiration in the motion.
My primary focus when creating sound designs for these animations was establishing a specific atmosphere or mood. Because the animations were abstract and could be played on a loop, I aimed to create a sense of endlessness and growth through the music and sound design. In "Liquid Fields," I layered bassy and distorted synth sounds to produce a viscous and diffuse texture. In "Proverb," I used a ring modulator to create a sound effect that evoked a struggle that is abruptly cut off by a sharp synth stab. By adding sound to these animations, I succesffuly expanded them into a stronger sensory experience, bringing them to life in a unique and memorable way.
