Project Summary

I collaborated with three classmates to animate a stop-motion piece that travels from the depths of the ocean to sandy beaches. Our goal was to create 500 frames and turn those frames into a short story. I created multiple frames and composed original music and sound design.

For the music, I imagined how it would sound to experience a journey between these environments. Inspired by nature documentaries, I designed sounds to widen and texturize the settings and characters. A single chord remains consistent throughout the piece, only evolving once we have arrived on land.

But before we get there, I layered several sounds that whoosh, flow, and push the momentum of the animation forward while highlighting key moments of sonic interest. The angler fish’s light appears with a sharp, resonant, and optimistic synth sound, cutting through the darkness. The jellyfish plunges into the unknown, causing a sudden eruption of noise and arpeggiations. And finally, we are met at the surface, where the sea shells and sand sway with the same foundational chord now as a bouncy pulse that whisks us away.
